Travelling with pets

If you plan to bring their pets abroad, how do you ensure that you can take them again not arrested - as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho last night? The following is a summary of things to remember.

Quarantine is a legal requirement?

Not now. Pet dogs and cats living in the UK, or one of the other eligible countries may enter or re-enter the UK without quarantine provided they meet the rules of the DEFRA pet transportation system.

What pet transport systems are involved?

First, your pet must be fitted with a microchip so that correctly identified. Then you should be vaccinated against rabies. There are no exceptions to this requirement, even if your pet has a current rabies vaccination. Next you need to arrange blood tests to ensure that the vaccinations will be given a satisfactory level of protection against rabies. Finally, your pet must be treated against ticks and tapeworm not less than 24 hours and not more than 48 hours prior to submission for your trip to England.

You need a pet passport?

To put the animals in the EU country, you need to get the EU pet passport. If you are preparing your animal in a country outside the EU list, you need to get an official certificate of third countries of animals (although note that Gibraltar, Norway, San Marino and Switzerland also issued a passport).

What if you have an old pet certificate still valid?

Animals can also enter the UK with a certificate issued pets before October 1, 2004 until the "valid until" date her. Certificates issued after that date will not be accepted for entry to the UK.

You can travel to any carrier?

Your pet must enter the United Kingdom from a country that appears to travel with the operator approved by the authorized route.
